Collar Options

Removable Stays — Plastic stays that are inserted into the stay pocket at the time the collar is constructed. The stay pocket is then stitched closed. Permanent stays cannot be ordered for a buttondown.

No Stays — A collar may be ordered with no stays. No stay pocket will be constructed. Should you desire a stay at a later date, it will be necessary to make new collars.

Buttondown Collars — Any collar style can be made as a buttondown. A traditional buttondown spread would be the three (3) spread also known as our semi-spread. Buttondowns are usually made with no stays. They can also be made with removable stays.

Hidden Buttondown Collars — This style is a loop configuration. It is only manufactured with NO STAYS.

Snapdown Collar — This style is made with a lighter weight lining for a more casual look.

Eyelet Collar — Hand-sewn eyelets are available. We recommend the use of the one (1) or no-spread, the two (2) or close-spread, or the three (3) semi-spread collar. Eyelet collars are usually made with no stays.

Snap Tabs or Button Tabs or Loop Tabs — Snap tabs are available with factory installed snaps. Button tabs and Loop tabs are also available. We recommend the use of the one (1) or no-spread, the two (2) or close-spread, or the three (3) or semi-spread collar. Any of these three spreads will give a neat appearance for a tab collar.

Tire Space — The distance between the opening of the collar on the front band. The standard tie space is ¼’’. However, you may order zero tie space, ¼’’, ½’’, ¾’’, or 1’’ tie space. Please specify your preference in your order.

Vanishing Band — This is recommended for the customer with no neck or several chins. The collar has a regular neck band in the back which tapers down or “vanishes” in the front. Without a front collar band, the neck button and buttonhole are sewn on the shirt front. Or, you may specify a loop and button at the neck. An alteration to change from a vanishing band collar to a regular collar requires a new collar and front because the neck buttonhole is sewn on the front panel. Please be certain this style is what your customer wants or needs before you order.
