Overview

0_sleevesrotate At Alan David, we produce the finest custom shirts and custom suits NYC has to offer. We never allow price to compromise quality. Yet our prices are quite affordable. Custom shirt prices range from $100 to $225.

We are not the cheapest in town because we choose not to be. To be cheaper we would have to take something out of the “make” of the shirt and/or use inferior fabrics. Sure, we can produce custom shirts for less money. We can show you an inferior fabric that looks and feels exactly like a quality fabric but after a few dry cleanings that custom made shirt will shrink, especially in the neck and cuff areas. We will always cling to our heritage of quality, even if it does cost a bit more.

To meet our strict quality controls, all of our custom shirts are made domestically, nothing is outsourced overseas. Alan David does not produce custom made shirts in Hong Kong because the quality of the cottons very often is not desirable and more often than not the collars and cuffs will shrink excessively.

Fit

At Alan David, the fit of our men’s custom suits & shirts is our number one priority. We guarantee that your fit will be perfect the very first time. We say this proudly, with many years of patternmaking and measuring techniques under our belts. Our quest for a perfect fit is relentless and intense. It is what separates us from the rest.

Quality shirtmaker

Much like our custom suits, our custom shirts are made to the highest possible quality standards. Our quality is concentrated in two main areas; the quality of the fabrics and the quality of the interlinings. Both contribute to the same goal; less shrinkage.

At Alan David we are careful to buy premium fabrics that will have a tendency not to shrink. You can manufacture the greatest custom dress shirts in the world but if the fabric is not up to par it is an exercise in futility. We are the experts and we know which fabrics will hold up and which will slither away.

As a secondary precaution, we use additional interlinings in the neck and cuff area. These interlinings are actually light pieces of canvas that go around the neckband and cuff area. This accomplishes two things. It gives extra shrinkage protection in the two key areas of the shirt and allows the collar and cuffs to hold firm and strong. They will not roll or crease during the day. They stay crisp and solid and really stand up to the dry cleaner (the biggest killer of mens custom shirts).

Every client we measure gets his own individual pattern tailored to his unique body. No two patterns are the same. The measuring aspect greatly plays into the quality of the shirt. These measurements are time tested over four generations to ensure the perfect fit.

Design your own shirt

striped_shirt

A custom shirt, even more than a custom suit, lets the world know that you are serious about the way you look. Options like french cuffs, monograms and white collars & cuffs let people know that you mean business. The way you dress speaks to people before you even open your mouth.

At Alan David, we will design custom dress shirts that accentuate your finest features. Things like eye and hair color, height, weight, skin complexion, long or short neck and even hair length go a long way in determining the correct shirt style. Do not leave it to just a “fitter” who will give you a custom made shirt that fits without taking all of the above into account.

Foe example, we can raise the collar to make your neck look shorter and we can shorten the collar points to make a big neck or a round face look smaller. We can also give you a lower collar in the front of the shirt in case you have multiple chins. This will make your neck look skinnier while allowing for easy buttoning at the top of the collar.

If you already have a shirt that fits you perfectly, just bring it in and we can copy it for you (same holds true for your custom mens suits). Put your trust in Alan David, you will not be disappointed.
