| Tips for Skinny and Short
Alan David Custom offers the following fashion points to shorter and thinner men. Since 1926, Alan David Custom has fit New Yorkers of all shapes and sizes with unique and incredibly comfortable custom suits, trousers, shirts, jackets, and overcoats. Alan David custom garment are designed to not only feel great, but to make you look your best.
For shorter men, Alan David recommends:
- Two-button clothing over three-button clothing. Two-button jackets elongate the chest and torso, lending the garment more of an opening thus giving the client a taller appearance.
- An appropriate jacket length. For shorter men, the style of the jacket is not nearly as important as its length. Usually, a man’s jacket is judged to be the correct length when it “covers the seat” of the trousers. However, for shorter men, it is important that the jacket end on the bottom of the seat. If the jacket is too long, it will look oversized and make the client look shorter. The length of the jacket is the most critical part of the shorter man's custom suit. The perfect length can add the illusion of two to three additional inches of height. In order to do this the bottom of the jacket must just barely cover the bottom of the seat, no longer and no shorter!
- Avoid conspicuous breaks at the bottom of the trousers. Shorter men should go for subtle or no breaks. If the pants are just a little long or if they slide down just a bit, the break in the cuff will appear sloppy, and the pants will look too bulky.
- Seek an expert tailor who will ensure your jackets, shirts, and trousers are not too long. These measurements are easy to miss, and will unintentionally emphasize the less flattering elements of your physique.
For thin men, Alan David recommends:
- Plaid and windowpane suit and /or shirt patterns. These patterns broaden the frame, and make the chest and torso appear bigger.
- Double breasted suits. These suits make the wearer look heavier.
- As with shorter men, thin men should avoid pleats on their trousers.
- Avoid tight or tapered clothing. Men with narrow shoulders should also opt for jackets and overcoats with padded shoulders.
For short and fit men, the quality of the custom fit makes all the difference in the world. Alan David Custom Suits has the best tailors in NYC on staff, experts at accentuating the strengths of your physique and downplaying the less flattering aspects.
