David has been producing mens custom suits in New York since 1926. All
of our garments are made with a full canvas construction and hand sewn
by bespoke tailors recruited from all over the world.
Our
attention to detail and quality is unparalled. Our clothing is made in
New York as well as Canada. Due to our strict quality standards we do
not outsource anything offshore.
At Alan David, we cling to our long heritage of quality before price. So much detail goes into our custom suitsthat
it would be impossible to list every attribute.
Our finest attribute is
the canvas we use. This canvas is sewn into the garments causing the
lapel to have a nice fluid roll, as opposed to a flat crease. Our
canvas is thicker in the lapel area which holds the shape of the lapel
longer.
Every custom suit comes with bemberg
linings. All working buttonholes are hand made as well. Our trousers
are all finished with reinforced waistbands which do not allow the
waistband to roll over the belt. There is three inches of extra fabric
inside our jackets and trousers in case you gain a few pounds. Our pant
cuffs are double tacked so they will not fall down. Our jacket collar
interlinings are quite strong which keeps the collar hugging the neck
while preventing those creases at the back of the neck from appearing.
Fit
At Alan David, the fit of our custom made suits is our number one priority. Our goal is to fit you as close to perfect the very first time. Alan David and family have been in the custom business since 1926 and are pioneers in pattern making as well as measuring technique. Our fit is what sets us apart from the rest.
Fitting is not something that can be taught, it must be learned from experience. Do not trust an amateur. Keep in mind that the nicest fabric at the cheapest price means nothing if the suit does not fit correctly. Our measuring technique and pattern making skills are time tested over the past four generations. That experience is included in every garment we sell and is the hallmark of our custom suits.
At Alan David we sell only custom suits, not “made to measure suits ”. Every client we measure receives his own unique pattern. No two patterns are the same. Our commitment to the perfect fit is relentless and intense. It is what sets us apart from the rest.
Prices
At Alan David we never allow price to compromise quality. We are not the cheapest in town because we choose not to be. To be the cheapest we would have to use inferior fabrics or reduce the quality level of the suits. We take pride in the fact that our clients tell us over and over that they may have paid a bit more for their custommade suit but they know they are getting quality. They do not have to worry about wear and tear. No shining no bubbling and no fraying.
Our custom suits are priced from $850-$1,595. Custom sports coats range from $650-$1,295. Everything is included in the above prices including working buttonholes, pick stitching etc. In addition, any alterations needed later on to your garments are free of charge for the life of the garment.

Loro Piana
Loro Piana has been looming fabrics for over 100 years. It is one of the finest mills in Italy. Loro Piana has many different degrees of quality. The collections we offer are the Tasmanian as well as Zelander collections, both the cream of the crop.
Scabal
For the finest fabric in the world, come feast your eyes on the Scabal super 250’s fabric. Scabal has a wide range of fabrics including beautiful flannels forcustom suits and trousers, silk and wool sports coats as well as a new collection of deluxe baby gabardines for trousers that is truly in a class all by itself.
Ermengildo Zegna
Zegna is a mill with a long standing history of quality and value. Their Trofeo Super 140’s line is a perennial best seller. Zegna also produces magnificent sports coat fabrics, both for fall as well as spring.
Dormeuil
Dormeuil is an “English inspired” timeless classic. Their Amadeus Collection is a favorite due to its sturdy finish and classic look. Dormeuil also has a wonderful collection of cashmeres as well as tweeds that are popular for suits, sports coats as well as overcoats.
Canterbury
Canturbury is a super 120 merino wool fabric blended with a touch of cashmere which helps enhance the wools natural elasticity and shed wrinkles. This cloth is also produced in England and is a favorite season after season.

Design your own suit
Our staff will help you design a suit that not only fits you but also flatters you.
Owning a custom suit gives you the opportunity to design a suit that is flattering to your individual physique. For example, a shorter man will always look better in a two button suit as opposed to a three button and a stocky man will always look better in stripes then plaids or windowpanes.
In addition, there are things that you as clients cannot expect to realize about how different designs can make you look more flattering. This is where we come in. Do not leave it to amateurs who will just take a series of measurements. Did you know that hair color as well as skin complexion is so important when choosing the color and shade of a suit? Did you also know that a round or long face can be less accentuated by the width of the jacket lapel.
Other examples include button stance, height, shoulder slope as well as the amount of room in the thigh area. Did you ever have a suit with a pair of trousers that seemed too baggy? You got it; this makes you look fat and sloppy. If you are lucky enough to already have that perfect suit, bring it in and we can copy it.

Free shipping anywhere is the USA. Your garments arrive neatly packed in a hanger wardrobe box. This often saves you an additional trip to the showroom.
Our weaving department gives you piece of mind that if you somehow tear your suit it can usually be repaired and look like new. Our weavers are true craftsmen, having worked on many bespoke suits in New York over the years.
Alan David also offers free lifetime alterations for as long as you own your garment. Gain or lose a few pounds, no problem. Just bring the garment in and we will re-alter it to your new specifications.
